Motorola unveiled the Razr 50 series in China, and the global announcement came a few hours later. T-Mobile US is already promoting its exclusive Hot Pink Razr+, while Amazon India is gearing up for the local launch. Now there’s only one question – will you buy one?
First, let’s meet the contenders. The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra, otherwise known as the Moto razr+ 2024 in the US, builds on its predecessor with an IPX8 water resistance rating, an even larger 4” bezel display, a slightly bigger and faster battery (4,000 mAh, 45W wired, 15W wireless), a more powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, and camera upgrades (50MP 1/1.95″ main, 50MP 2x portrait).
Razr 50 Ultra/razr+ 2024 (12/512GB) costs USD 1000/CAD 1300/EUR 1200. Expensive, but the Honor Magic V Flip is the only one that can challenge it in the size of the cover screen, and it won’t be coming to the US. The Galaxy Z Flip6 is coming (and soon) with a larger bezel display than its predecessor, but it doesn’t seem to match the Moto. The Motorola Razr 50, otherwise known as the Moto razr 2024 in the US, is the more affordable model and fixes many of the main complaints we had about the Razr 40. Starting with the lid display – the small line display is gone, replaced by a The 3.6” panel that appears to be more or less identical to the one the Razr 40 Ultra had. And it has an IPX8 rating instead of the basic waterproof model of last year’s models.
The phone uses a Dimensity 7300X chipset, which is a modest upgrade over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, and the same 4,200mAh battery with 30W charging and (this time) 15W wireless charging. The 50MP main camera is the same as in the Ultra, but there is no tele module here, only a 13 MP ultra-wide (on the contrary, the Ultra does not have an ultra-wide module).
Motorola Razr 50 (razr 2024)
The Motorola Razr 50/razr 2024 will be available in the US for $700. It will be released in other regions (Europe, South America, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific), but details about that will come at a later date.
We don’t yet know the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6’s actual price or specs (although leaks have given a pretty complete picture). Honor has not said whether the Magic V Flip will be released internationally. The same goes for Huawei and Pocket 2.
There’s the nubia Flip and the Blackview Hero 10, which can challenge the vanilla Razr 50. The Nubia Flip is going global (targeting multiple markets, including the US) with a base price of $500 for an 8/256GB unit. The phone uses SD 7 Gen 1 and a 1.43” circular bezel display, making it closer to the Razr 40 instead of the 50. The main display is a 6.9” 120Hz OLED panel. The Flip has a single 50MP camera on the back and a surprisingly large 4,310mAh battery with 33W wireless-only charging. Nothing stellar, but this is one of the most affordable foldables you can find.
Its competition is the Blackview Hero 10, which aims for a lower price of €400 (about $425). However, this is a 4G phone with a Helio G99. It has an impressive camera – a 108MP (1/1.67”) sensor on the main and an 8MP ultra-wide, plus a 32MP selfie. The 4,000mAh battery with 45W charging is pretty good too.
